Frequently asked questions
Do I need to speak any Somali to join?
Not at all. We welcome complete beginners as well as heritage learners who already understand some Somali. Our classes are grouped by level so everyone learns at the right pace.
What ages do you teach?
We teach children aged 5 to 17 and adults aged 18 and over. Tell us the learner's age on the registration form and we'll recommend the right class.
What classes do you offer?
Right now we run an in-person Saturday class for children aged 5 to 17, from 3pm to 5pm. We also have new online classes starting in September: classes for children aged 8 to 17 on Saturdays, taught in small groups by age, and a reading and writing class for adults on Sundays from 3pm to 5pm. Online class times are confirmed when you register.
How much do classes cost?
We keep our fees affordable for local families, and we offer discounts for families with several children. Your first lesson at our new online classes is free. Contact us for fees and available discounts.
How are classes taught?
Our classes are interactive, with a strong focus on group work and feedback from the teacher, so you build real confidence through conversation and practice.
How do I register?
Just fill in our registration form. Our team will then confirm availability, start dates and next steps.
Will there be online learning resources?
Yes. Enrolled students get a Student Resources area for class notes, homework and worksheets, and anyone can try a few of our games free.
